Laid off

Hello friends.  For the last six and a half years I worked for Hertz Corporation (HTZ).  That’s right, I was laid off in the first round of layoffs on January 5th. I’m now seeking a new job.  Here is my resume .

You may have noticed I haven’t written about who I was working for or what I did. Not because I wasn’t proud of my work. I have lots of pride about what I did for Hertz. I loved my job and I liked the people I worked with.  I didn’t write about it because the company discouraged it. Now I’m almost free to speak my mind.

Personal Hero dies, Todd Skinner

I meet Todd Skinner on the rock. You should be more surprised to learn I’m a climber, then I would meet him there. In the early 1990’s, I geared up and headed to the Wichita Mountans in southwest Oklahoma, to enjoy the outdoors and test myself against nature. I learned it’s hard to defy the law of gravity. Rock is hard and rock climbers are very independent and territorial. Unless you crazy, you climb with a partner.

Feeding the Rat

A year ago, I was dying, litterally.  I couldn’t walk up a flight of stairs without stopping at the top,to catch my breath.  My soul was dying too. I spent my days talkng to no one. All the fun in life was gone. I was almost ready to kiss it all goodbye.  (Read – http://www.grennan.com/content/view/17/9/)

Today, I’m sitting at Starbucks in Denver,Colorado writing this story, excited about where I’ll be tomarrow: Quandry Peak. This mountian has been in my dreams for years now.

I’m still not in good shape.  Every morning, I wake up in pain, almost unable to get to the shower to start my day, but today I’m pain free because of the adrenalin pumping through me.   I’m not letting anything stop me. I have to do this. I have to feed the rat.

What is feeding the the rat?

McAfee Calls for the “Digital Dark Ages”

This month (July 2006) McAfee Avert Labs issued their first issue of Sage. Sage is a semiannual newsletter with the goal to publish predictive and incisive security research that helps you understand the current and evolving threat environment.

Over the years I have been happy with McAfee and their products.  Recently, I have become very pleased with McAfee because of the Sabag Security podcast produced by two of their employees. http://www.saeagsecurity.com/ Sabag Security is a wonderful weekly coverage of what’s happen in security. When I downloaded and read the first issue of Sage, I expected something like the podcast with more details.

To my surprise, McAfee’s Sage newsletter is a blast at Open Source and intellectual freedom and a call to keep us all secure by making all intellectual property (IP) secret.

Sage opens with the Editor's notes by Kevin J. Soo Hoo.  Mr. Hoo describes Open Source by saying "By open source, we refer to the free and unconditional sharing of source code and ideas."  Mr. Hoo also says "Whether posting a terrorist training manual or a how-to guide for attacking infrastructure, there are consequences to the free and open share of information –".

Iva’s Poems – Page 5

This poem was writen my Iva for Fother’s day. My PAL He is just a small fellow, who has a heart of gold. A bit stooped from toil and labor, yet, to me he isn't old. His eyes displays his kindness, there is silver in his hair. His voice is soft and mellow, as it is carries thru the air. His clothes are oiled and spotted, when I see him in his shop.
